The farmland around the Shawangunk Mountains, near New Paltz, NY, is really beautiful.  One day recently I was able to get a lot of photos of a herd of cattle out enjoying the Summer.

From the Archives

This is a painting I did for my step-father-in-law.  He and my mother in law were big fans of covered bridges.  This bridge, in the Hudson Valley, is a special favorite of his.

Video Mega Fun!

I did a small painting of a beautiful sunset I saw over the Shawangunk Mountains in New Paltz, NY.  I had some cool techie fun making a time lapse video of the painting!!  You can see the video on Instagram if you search for me, lauriesammonsart.  Or, if you don't have the app, you can see the video here.

Gunk Dreams

11 x 14 Pastel on UArt Sanded Paper
I have been on a bit of a hiatus from my blog.  A little R&R is always good.  Fortunately I still got some art in while I wasn't blogging.  It was easy with beautiful scenery all around me :-)

New Paltz Gardens

12 x 12 Pastel on UArt 500 Sanded Paper

On a great walk last year there were so many beautiful flowers blooming at the New Paltz Gardens for Nutrition, one of the oldest community gardens of NY.  The contrast of the colors in this particular garden caught my eye.

Waiting at Ruggles
12x16 Pastel
I wait at a train station in Boston a lot.  There's a big window that looks toward downtown Boston and at certain times of the year when my train times coincide with dusk and sunsets, the sky can be just beautiful.
This is a pastel painting I did soon after I started painting, inspired by one of the beautiful sunsets.

Scary Art Day

The Currach

I've already had a couple of firsts on this blog.  Today was another one.  I delivered my first "commissioned" piece of art today.  Thanks to JK for not only inspiring me to paint this Irish Currach, but also for actually liking the painting!  This is a 20 x 16 pastel painting on Ampersand Pastelboard.  Painting for someone else is scary, but it's awesome when it's a success.

Salt Pond

I'm getting ready for a few new projects so I'm reviewing some older paintings in the archive.  This was inspired by a photograph of one of the salt ponds near Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, NY.

So glad it's March since February was a very tough month.  After losing some time to the dreaded Flu I've had a hard time getting back on schedule.  But here I am.  Art On!
